The 3 things you MUST know about fuel contamination!

Water Contamination or AdBlue Contamination

Water contaminated fuel, whether it's petrol or diesel, is undoubtedly a significant situation to deal with in a vehicle - specifically in more modern common-rail engines.

Water or AdBlue inside your fuel tank is likely to result in idling issues, irregular running, abnormal smoke and, if it is not addressed fully, potentially blown injectors. Water in petrol is easier to drain as compared with water in diesel - primarily because diesel is an oil. However we can resolve both cases rather simply.

You should know however that in the event that the vehicle was run on the fuel contaminated with water it will more than likely require a new fuel filter fitted seeing that the old one will be thoroughly wet and unusable.

Waste Fuel Removal

Have an old fuel container placed in the back of your premises containing old, unusable or degraded fuel? We could help you to get rid of it. We have been called out to several domestic and industrial premises in Shropshire to take care of removing and disposing of fuel storages. We are covered by the Environment Agency to be able to extract and recycle waste fuel safely and legally.

Whether the fuel storage is an underground container, a mobile bowser, or possibly even several containers in a garage, provided that we are able to reach it, we can certainly drain it for you.

Wrong Fuel Assist Lanes End - Wrong Fuel in Car Lanes End

I had enjoyed a fantastic afternoon fishing during my off day and felt contented the following morning as I set off to assist a young couple away in Lanes End. They pulled over after putting petrol in their grey Ford Fusion, and they were about an hour's travel away. I arrived at their car and laughed to myself while I listened to the woman telling off her husband for actually being so silly. "How could you even be able to fill the vehicle up with the wrong fuel?" she said to him. I wanted to clarify that this problem occurs all the time in Shropshire and that it's in reality nothing to fret about, nevertheless he all the same had an earful. Unlucky boy. At any rate, I removed all the wrong fuel, flushed the engine and gave them some right fuel. Watching them drive down the road I waved hasta la vista and wondered what her indoors would tell me if perhaps I made the same mistake... I would personally never live it down!

How to find out if I put the wrong fuel in my car?

If you’ve just filled up at a petrol station and the cars starts to act a bit strange you might start to wonder if you accidentally put the wrong fuel in it.

Well, there are a few things to can check that will be able to tell you:

  1. How is the car responding? There are some very common misfuel symptoms which can be a good indicator of wrong fuel:
    • Loss of engine power – can feel like the car has run out of fuel
    • A lot of smoke (more than usual)
    • Engine coughing or starting to splutter
    • Won’t start – or keeps stalling.
  2. Look at your fuel receipt. It will state clearly if you filled up with diesel or unleaded. If you don’t have the receipt, you can often return to the petrol station where you filled up and give them the date and time (and pump) where you refueled and they will often be able to give you a VAT receipt.
  3. Smell it. Diesel and petrol have very distinctly different smells. Anyone familiar with the motor industry should be able to help you with this. Or you could even get another car to park alongside and smell the fuel caps of both, comparing them to determine what the fuel type is.
  4. Call us to come out and assess the car. In the majority of cases we will be able to tell if the car has been misfueled before beginning work on it. If we discover that the vehicle does not need a fuel drain, you will only be charged a call-out fee.
